O’Brien Estate: Private Tasting Reservations, Pricing, and What to Expect

A visit to O’Brien Estate is more than a wine tasting it is a personal invitation to our home. As a family-owned estate tucked into the quiet Oak Knoll District at the southern end of Napa Valley, we offer an intimate, unhurried journey into our world of award-winning, estate-grown wines. The property opens onto sweeping views of the Mayacamas and Stag’s Leap mountain ranges, an English garden in constant bloom, and a tasting patio designed for slow afternoons and long conversations.

This guide walks you through everything you need to plan a visit: our private tasting experiences, transparent pricing, what’s included with each option, how to book, and what to expect on the day you arrive.

Choose Your Private Tasting Experience

Every visit to O’Brien Estate is private, seated, and thoughtfully curated. We do not run a public tasting bar there are no crowds, no rushed pours, and no walk-ins. Instead, each party is welcomed into its own space with a dedicated host, focused entirely on showcasing our limited-production, estate-grown wines.

Below are the three private tasting options currently available, along with O’Brien Estate winery private tasting reservations pricing and what’s included with each.

Standard Tasting

  • Price: $85 per guest
  • Duration: 90 minutes
  • Group Size: 1–8 guests
  • What’s Included: A private, seated tasting of our current-release estate wines. A dedicated host will guide you through each pour, sharing the stories behind our winemaking and the unique character of our vineyard.

The Standard Tasting is our most popular option and an excellent introduction to the estate. It is ideal for couples, small groups of friends, and first-time visitors who want a genuinely intimate Napa Valley experience.

Group Tasting

  • Price: $125 per guest
  • Duration: 90 minutes
  • Group Size: 9–12 guests
  • What’s Included: The same intimate setting and personal attention as our Standard Tasting, scaled thoughtfully for larger parties. A dedicated host leads your group through a flight of current-release, estate-grown wines in a private space reserved just for you.

The Group Tasting is well suited to celebrations — milestone birthdays, anniversaries, corporate retreats, and family reunions where you’d like everyone seated together without giving up the personal feel of a private appointment.

Reserve Tour & Tasting

  • Price: $150 per guest
  • Duration: 120 minutes
  • Group Size: 1–6 guests
  • What’s Included: Our most immersive experience. The visit begins with a guided tour of our sustainable vineyard, enchanting English gardens, and working winery. Afterward, you are seated for an elevated tasting of our most sought-after Reserve and Library wines, led personally by a senior host.

This is the option we recommend for serious wine enthusiasts, collectors, and anyone who wants to taste deeply into the cellar — including older library vintages and our flagship reserve bottlings.

Why an Intimate Experience at O’Brien Estate is Different

Napa Valley offers no shortage of tasting rooms, but guests who specifically seek an intimate Napa Valley tasting experience tell us they’re looking for something different the chance to truly connect with the people, the wine, and the place. That’s the experience we’ve built around for two decades.

  • Truly Private: Every appointment is exclusively for your party. You have your own host and your own dedicated space, ensuring the experience is focused entirely on you and your guests.
  • Family-Owned and Operated: From the moment you arrive, you are our personal guest. Bart and Barb O’Brien are often on the property, and their passion for hospitality is reflected in every detail of your visit.
  • Exclusively Estate-Grown: We only pour wines grown, produced, and bottled right here on our 33-acre estate. Every glass is a genuine taste of our specific corner of Napa Valley, not a blend of fruit from distant vineyards.
  • A Focus on Relaxation: We aim to be the opposite of a rushed tasting bar. Settle in, ask questions, take your time, and savor world-class wine in a tranquil setting, far from the crowds.

A Walk Through Your Visit, Step by Step

Many first-time guests ask what to actually expect when they arrive. Here is the rhythm of a typical visit:

  1. Arrival & Welcome: You’ll be greeted personally by your host at the estate entrance and walked to your private tasting space, most often our open-air patio overlooking the vineyard and gardens.
  2. Setting the Scene: Before the first pour, your host will share a short story of how O’Brien Estate began, the choice to bottle our own fruit, and the philosophy that shapes every wine we make.
  3. The Tasting: Each pour is presented with context, vintage, vineyard block, and time in barrel, followed by an unhurried conversation about what you’re tasting. We encourage questions, opinions, and lingering over the bottles you love.
  4. The Estate, If Time Allows: For Reserve Tour & Tasting guests, your host will guide you through the vineyard and gardens before the seated portion. Standard guests are warmly invited to wander the gardens before or after their tasting.
  5. Taking the Estate Home: Most guests leave with a few bottles to extend the visit at home. Anything you taste can be purchased directly from the estate, and members receive priority allocation on small-production wines.

Absolutely — many of our most memorable visits are celebrations. Add a note about the occasion when you make your reservation so we can prepare a more personal welcome.
